Understanding & Giving Directions

SPL 4 Listening/Speaking: Can satisfy basic survival needs and very routine social demands. Understands simple learned phrases easily and some new simple phrases containing familiar vocabulary, spoken slowly with frequent repetition.
Reading/ Writing: Can read and interpret simple material on familiar topics. Able to read and interpret simple directions, schedules, signs, maps, and menus. Can fill out forms requiring basic personal information and write short, simple notes and messages based on familiar situations.

Employability: Can handle entry - level jobs that involve some simple oral and written communication but in which tasks can also be demonstrated and/or clarified orally.

Students will be assimilated into this class when Book 4 is finished.

Internet Audio Readings and Practice Exercises

Designed for beginning readers (pre-kindergarten to second grade), Animated Beginning Phonics covers upper- and lowercase letters, beginning and ending sounds, middle short vowel sounds, and beginning reading words. Sound is used extensively to help the child identify words and letters. Help is available as needed by the student. Pictures of more than 200 3D objects are used in the exercises. All menu items and directions are read aloud to the student to help prereaders navigate and operate the program.
When the student has completed a certain number of problems, they can visit the game room with puzzles and matching games (animated of course). The game room has a parent/teacher control so the number of problems that have to be completed before the student can play can be controlled (5 to 50, or you can close the game room.

For full multi-sensory self instruction in the 71 phonograms (sound/spelling pattern relationships); ideal to allow older students independence in learning what they may, at first, consider "baby work." The testing/worksheet booklet contains suggestions for applications in spelling and 47 rules of spelling, plural & syllabication.
